Starting Your Own Play Group

  1. Decide on the criteria for being in the group. Usually being a mother is the central principal, but you may have other deciding factors such as age of the children, and/or a special interest in something.
  2. Decide on a meeting time.
  3. Choose a meeting place. Public places like the library or a city park are best in the beginning.
  4. Advertise places where mothers of small children frequent (e.g. the local library, schools, pediatrician & o.b. offices)

Once you've formed your group you can set up a hosting rotation and take turns providing a snack for the group. You can add field trips, pool days, a book club and the always important Moms Night Out.

If your group becomes large enough you may want to take turns serving on a volunteer board to help things run smoothly.

These are just some ideas to get you started. While I've never started my own club, I am still active in a spin off play group that began as a MOMS Club group. I served on the board of my local MOMS Club as Membership V.P., and as Field Trip Coordinator, and as play Group Coordinator.
