Advice Books

Advice books can be so difficult and disappointing, but sometimes you just don't know what to do with your children. That is why I loved...

Babyhood by Penelope Leach
"Stage by stage, from birth to age two: how your baby develops physically, emotionally, mentally; how your baby thinks feels, learns and expresses needs and wants"

It explains what is happening developmentally without telling you what you should be doing. I really wish there was a book like this for every age of childhood.

The House in the Night2009 Caldecott Medal Winner

"Richly detailed black-and-white scratchboard illustrations expand this timeless bedtime verse, offering reassurance to young children that there is always light in the darkness. Krommes' elegant line, illuminated with touches of golden watercolor, evoke the warmth and comfort of home and family, as well as the joys of exploring the wider world." - American Library Association

The Grey Landy and the Strawberry Snatcher by Molly Bang1991 Caldecott Honor Book

This is a fantastic picture book. I highly recommend it. It is unique and compelling.
